This month gave us a bit of everything as far as the weather was concerned, we had some more torrential rain and some localized flooding along with a mixture of bright and duller days that were dry at times.

On some of the dry days the tractor and cutter were kept busy cutting the pathways. Some sections of marsh were also cut back short ready for the start of the migratory birds that like to use these areas when passing through.

We are starting to see a bit more activity on the estuary as some of the birds are beginning to group up.
The swallows, sandmartins and lapwings are in good numbers just now, and in the last couple of days there have been some geese moving through as well.

On the 14th and 17th we had a sighting of two black swans on the estuary (sadly no camera on these days).
The fruit trees have all done well again this year with some heavy crops to be seen, and there have been good butterfly numbers especially around some of the areas that have a lot of Buddleia bushes.

The birds have started on the rowan berries a lot earlier than last year and there is a definite autumnal feel about the end of the month with temperatures starting to drop a bit and the dew getting heavy on the grass in the mornings.

On the last Friday of the month a group of Scone scouts and leaders enjoyed an evening out on the Willowgate Fishery.

Their time was divided between fly casting lessons, canoe lessons and trying out a coracle that they had made previously as one of their projects. The coracle proved a success and a good night was had by one and all.

As the month ended there was just a little bit extra water coming down the system, but the river was settling back again and the days were getting a bit duller and cooler.
