June has seen a month of continued dry weather keeping the river low. After the peaty colour cleared up in the first week fish have been caught most days. Sitting today on June 28th with 20 fish so far it has been a reasonable month with hopefully more to come. The middle two weeks of the month saw unbroken sunshine most days making catching fish a challenge. Most sport was had in the evenings once the sun had dipped. Last week however provided more cloud cover and fish were again caught every day. We are regularly seeing running fish with an apparent increase in numbers towards the end of June. It has heartening to see a run of grilse around the 4-5lb mark which hopefully bodes well for the rest of summer. Grilse which have been caught have been well conditioned and very fresh. Biggest fish of the month was caught by head ghillie David Godfrey weighing in at 24lb. Other catches include Brian Drury with a nice fish about 10lb. Ben Ewart had his first Tay salmon at 5lb and the Hurd party with had 4 fish including another 10lb summer fish. Fish are being hooked and landed on the fly with both beats providing good fly water in low conditions.
