This month started off with a few frosty mornings before it got a bit milder and there was a little bit of extra water coming down the system all month.
We had a bit of everything this month; from wind and rain, sleety showers, dry spells and a few very warm days when the mercury hit 20⁰C a couple of times! With the clocks going forward, warmer weather and everything budding up it feels like we are leaving winter behind.
There was a bit more colour about the place as the daffodils, wild primrose, snakehead fritillary, dog toothed violet and cuckoo flower were all coming out in blossom. There has been plenty activity from the bees in the warm spell and we were even seeing a few butterflies!
We were seeing a bit more activity on the bird front this month with the highlight being a sighting of forty plus waxwings down at the old orchard, there was said to be plenty in the country this winter but that was our only sighting!
There are more shelduck moving about in the area and still a few snipe to be seen as well. Swan numbers fluctuated with up to a hundred visiting the odd day, and there were groups of whoopers about too.
We had two more new green darvex ringed swans visit us this month (PUZ and LDZ), and it was good to see that the mute swans have started nesting again up at the fishery this month on one of the islands again.
On the work front the new toilet extension up at the fishery is almost done, just a bit decorating to do now. Outside the cafe a couple of areas have been all prepared ready for grass seeding.
There has been a lot more snowdrops dug up again, these have been split up and replanted all over the place covering more areas to enhance the place.
The bigger tides at the end of the month saw more coasters making their way up to Perth Harbour which is good for the river.
The month ended on a cooler, dull showery day.
